Overview

Set up a LiveRamp import when you want to receive audience data from partners who distribute through LiveRamp’s network. This guide walks through configuring the Permutive side of the connection and coordinating with LiveRamp for data delivery.
Prerequisites:
  • An active LiveRamp account
  • Your LiveRamp Organization ID (provided by LiveRamp)
  • An advertiser or data partner configured to distribute data to you in LiveRamp

When to Use LiveRamp Import

LiveRamp imports are ideal when:
  • Partners already use LiveRamp: Your data partners distribute through LiveRamp’s network
  • RampID matching: You want to match audiences using LiveRamp’s identity graph
  • Third-party data: You’re receiving segments from data providers on LiveRamp’s marketplace
  • Advertiser collaboration: Advertisers want to share audiences with you via LiveRamp
For direct file uploads from your own systems or partners who can send files directly, consider GCS imports instead.

Understanding the Integration

The LiveRamp import works as follows:
  1. You create a LiveRamp import in Permutive and provide your Organization ID
  2. Permutive configures the connection to receive data from LiveRamp
  3. Your data partner configures distribution to Permutive in LiveRamp Connect
  4. LiveRamp delivers audience data to Permutive automatically
  5. Segments appear in your import and become available for cohort building

Setup Steps

1

Get Your LiveRamp Organization ID

Your LiveRamp Organization ID is a unique identifier for your organization in LiveRamp’s system. This is provided by LiveRamp when you set up your account.
Organization ID vs Workspace ID: Your LiveRamp Organization ID is NOT your Permutive Workspace ID. These are different systems with different identifiers. Using the wrong ID will prevent data delivery.
If you don’t know your LiveRamp Organization ID, contact your LiveRamp representative.
2

Create the Import in Permutive

  1. Navigate to Connectivity > Imports in the Permutive Dashboard
  2. Click Add Import
  3. Select LiveRamp as the import source
  4. Enter a descriptive Data Provider Name (e.g., “LiveRamp Partner Data”)
  5. Enter your LiveRamp Organization ID
  6. Configure the default Segment Lifetime (how long users remain in imported segments)
  7. Click Save
3

Configure Distribution in LiveRamp

Work with your data partner or advertiser to configure distribution to Permutive in LiveRamp Connect:
  1. Your partner logs into LiveRamp Connect
  2. They navigate to their distribution settings
  3. They add Permutive as a destination
  4. They configure the Advertiser Name (this identifies the data relationship)
  5. They configure which segments to distribute
  6. They provide your Organization ID when prompted
The exact steps in LiveRamp Connect depend on the partner’s setup and relationship type. The Advertiser Name configured by your partner will appear in your import settings. Consult LiveRamp’s documentation or support for specific configuration details.
4

Verify Data Delivery

After configuration, data should begin flowing within 24-48 hours (depending on LiveRamp’s distribution schedule):
  1. Return to your import in the Permutive Dashboard
  2. Check for incoming segments
  3. Verify segment names and user counts appear as expected
5

Configure Taxonomy (If Needed)

Depending on how segments are configured in LiveRamp, you may need to set up your taxonomy to map segment codes to names.See Configuring Taxonomy for details.

Troubleshooting

Several issues can prevent data delivery.Check the following:
  1. Verify your LiveRamp Organization ID is correct in the Permutive import settings
  2. Confirm your partner has configured distribution to Permutive in LiveRamp Connect
  3. Check with your partner that the distribution is active (not paused)
  4. Verify segments are selected for distribution
Solution: Contact your LiveRamp representative to verify the distribution configuration. Contact Permutive support at [email protected] for assistance checking the Permutive side.
Using the wrong identifier is a common setup error.LiveRamp Organization ID:
  • Provided by LiveRamp
  • Identifies your organization in LiveRamp’s system
  • Used to configure data distribution to you
Permutive Workspace ID:
  • Found in your Permutive Dashboard settings
  • Identifies your Permutive workspace
  • NOT used for LiveRamp configuration
Solution: Always use your LiveRamp Organization ID (from LiveRamp) when creating the import in Permutive.
Segments may be configured but not matching any users.Possible causes:
  • RampID matching: Users in the segments haven’t been seen on your properties
  • Identity configuration: RampID isn’t configured in your Identity Graph
  • Recent setup: Not enough time has passed for users to be matched
Solution: Verify RampID is configured as an identifier in your Permutive Identity Graph. Allow time for users to visit your properties and be matched. Check with your partner that the segments contain active users.
If segment codes appear instead of human-readable names, taxonomy may not be configured.Solution: Configure your taxonomy to map segment codes to names. You can do this via CSV upload or the Taxonomy API. See Configuring Taxonomy.

LiveRamp Data Flow

Understanding how data flows helps with troubleshooting:

Best Practices

  • Document your Organization ID: Keep a record of your LiveRamp Organization ID for reference
  • Coordinate with partners: Ensure clear communication about what segments will be distributed
  • Monitor delivery: Regularly check that expected segments are arriving
  • Set appropriate lifetimes: Match segment lifetime to the partner’s distribution frequency
  • Use descriptive names: Name your imports clearly to distinguish different LiveRamp sources
